Did you know?
- The Algonquin Tribe named Moose after the word ‘moos’
or ‘mus’ which means ‘animal that strips bark off
trees.’
- Moose are part of the Deer family.
- Antlers help a moose keep cool in summer by getting rid of extra body
heat.
- They are good runners and can run at a speed up to 35 miles per hour.
- They also swim and to a speed as fast as 6 miles a hour.
- Moose live for more than 20 years in the wild.
- The male moose, called bulls, grow new antlers every year and shed
them in late fall or early winter.
- That male antlers can grow as large as 6 feet, 10 inches wide!
- Moose can attack trains, cars, horses, dogs and people yet may run
away from a swarm of black flies.
- They are not a herd animal, but rather, loners and they do not hibernate.
- Remember, when you are viewing these magnificent animals, they are
wild and can be dangerous! Keep your distance.
